Using his 200-watt radio transceiver, Stan Ewert (VE5SC) has spoken with ham radio operators from 285 countries. Stan hasn’t (yet) reached North Korea. It’s a place only a handful of hams have ever heard from. From his basement in White City, Regina area of Canada, Stan Ewert dreams of contacting North Korea.

“That’s the rarest contact you can ever make” he said.

Ewert is one of approximately 200 amateur radio operators in the Regina area. Many are retired but Ewert is active ham for about 70 years. It runs in the family. “My father was a ham,” he said. “My son is a ham as well. He carried on the family tradition.”
